Use hardware recording controls

Open Settings › Lens & Rig and enable Volume Shutter when offered. Test the phone buttons or compatible remote trigger before mounting the camera. Confirm the actual recording state on screen after each trigger.

Use an external display

  1. Connect the display through a compatible adapter or cable.
  2. Open Settings › Camera › Clean HDMI Feed and select the required option.
  3. Check the external image and its orientation before recording.

Display output is a monitoring connection. Confirm the phone's recording timer and save result separately.

Control Pro from another device

Run this iPhone from a second iPhone, or record on another phone from this one: Remote Control.

Use Apple Watch

Watch the picture and start and stop takes from your wrist: Apple Watch.

Clean HDMI output#

With Clean HDMI Feed ON, the phone keeps its controls and the monitor shows only the picture.
FIG 17.1With Clean HDMI Feed ON, the phone keeps its controls and the monitor shows only the picture.
Clean HDMI FeedThe monitor shows
OFF (default)A mirror of the whole phone screen, controls included (standard iOS mirroring).
ONThe camera picture only: no controls, telemetry, timer or reticles; fitted to the screen with black bars. It keeps running during a take.

Set it in Settings › Camera › Clean HDMI Feed; the change applies at once, with the monitor connected. Connect the monitor with a USB-C display adapter or cable. In normal recording the monitor follows the Log Look view you choose; above 60 fps, in Long-Record Mode, with ProRes RAW and in Dual Capture it shows the camera picture without that view.
