White balance#
The mode button (1) at the top of the WB rail shows and switches the white-balance mode. WB and TINT share one mode, so the same button sits on the TINT rail.
| Button | Means | Tap it to |
|---|---|---|
| AWB, white | Automatic white balance running. | Lock it at the current color: AWB with a lock. |
| AWB with a lock, amber | Automatic white balance held at the color it had. | Resume automatic: AWB. |
| MWB | Manual: you set the color temperature or tint. | Return to automatic: AWB. |
A tap never switches to MWB. Dragging the WB or TINT scale, or tapping a lighting preset, sets MWB (and drops a lock). The WB and TINT values read off-white only while AWB runs, and amber when locked or manual.

Tint and manual white balance#
Set values manually
Drag the WB rail to set color temperature, or tap a lighting preset beside it. Drag TINT to adjust the green-magenta balance. A manual adjustment sets the mode button to MWB; tap it to return to automatic. White balance
Measure a gray card#
- Open WB and tap the gray-card control (1). It is not available during a take.
- Fill the whole frame with the gray card: the measurement uses the entire picture, not a center area.
- Tap Lock White Balance.
Expected result: the Assist Line reads, for example, WB LOCKED · 5240K · TINT +3, and the WB rail's mode button reads MWB, holding the measured color.
| If the Assist Line reads | Means |
|---|---|
| GRAY CARD WB FAILED — TRY AGAIN | The camera refused the measurement; white balance is unchanged. |
| STOP RECORDING TO USE THE GRAY CARD | Measuring is not available during a take. |
| RECORDING — GRAY CARD CANCELLED | A take started from the Apple Watch, a remote or a hardware button ended the measurement. |
Cancel (3) leaves without changing white balance.
